Fire station #3 was the first project of the city of Fort Lauderdale after the hurricane of 1926. It was designed by famous architect Francis Abreu. In the winter of 1940 tragedy fell upon the fire station in the cost of a human life. Robert Leeland Knight was killed in a accident on the way to a fire. It was a rainy day and he jumped off the fire truck without his protective boots. He landed in a charged puddle of water due to a downed power line and was immediately killed.
